Home based business…who would I complain to?

One of our neighbors has a lunch truck that goes around to the local factories in the middle of the night. He drains water (I am assuming hot dogs are boiled in it from the smell) into the alley and piles mounds of french fry, hamburger, etc boxes next to his trash can which blow all around the neighborhood. Grease covered cleaning rags are left on the driveway. Everyone is the surrounding houses are woken up at both 12:30 am and 4:30 am when the truck leaves and returns (the truck beeps when it backs up and it is a multi-point turn). This was unhappily tolerated while the family was living there, however, they have moved out and are renting the house, but continue to run their business from this house (I suspect their new neighborhood would not even allow the truck, which is the size of an rv, to be parked outside). A neighbor has tried speaking to them about this, but nothing was done. I am assuming (hoping) there is something we can do about this situation…where would we start, to whom would we complain?

    I love this question!
First, I would get some solid video of the violations and annoyances! Catch him in the act! If you are a capitalist, you could demand $100 a week from them as hush money. If they blow you off, you could sumit the violations to your local zoning enforcement authorities.

In my county, you can fill out an anonymous complaint. The biggest problem is that it takes them at least a month to get out to the address to the check out the complaints. If they get video of illegal dumping (which some are probably cleaning chemicals too!) this guy will be toast.

Worst case scenario is you could get your local news to investigate. They’re always looking for good stories of people “caught in the act”.

    Good luck!
